Call for Proposals 2011 Dakota Iapi Omniciye
Background Information:
At the last Dakota Language Gathering May 2008 the state of criticalness was emphasized by all the participants who attended. In our Canadian Dakota communities, we currently have in Dakota Tipi only 4 fluent speakers left over the age of 65, Dakota Plains and Birdtail Sioux with fluent speakers over the age of 60 years. Canupawakapa and Sioux Valley Dakota Nations have fluent speakers over the age of 45 years. Our American Dakota relatives in Minnesota, North and South Dakota have fluent speakers over the age of 60.
Our Consortium continues with the vision to preserve and rebuild the language. We are a non-profit organization and we are seeking organizations or individuals to submit 1 hour presentations with information that will instill value of the language and resources or strategies to preserve and rebuild the fluency of the language.
The Dakota Iapi Teunhindapi Consortium will not be responsible for expenses for presentators. The Consortium doesn’t charge a registration fee and we provide a light breakfast and lunches.
Deadline for presentations is Tuesday, May 31, 2011. Successful candidates will be notified Wednesday, June 1, 2011.
